Alichur Gr

Period:
Proterozoic

Age Interval:
Neoproterozoic (PR1?), R1

Province:
SE Tajik (SE Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

It was distinguished by V. I. Budanov (1964b) as the Alichur complex. B. Ya. Khorova and K. T. Budanova (1965) considered these formations as a "series", but renamed it to the southern Alichur, V. P. Bulin and G. V. Kuznetsov, conducting geological surveys, stratified the Alichur series into four suites, lying on top of each other.

Synonym: Alichurskaya Series, Alichur complex

Lithology and Thickness

Alichur Gr is further divided into 4 formations, they are: Zvordarin Fm (zвордаринская свита), Lyangarskaya Fm (Лянгарская свита), Marganayskaya Fm (Марджанайская свита), Ramaifskaya Fm (Рамаифская свита).

The composition of the Alichur Gr rocks differs from the composition of the Shakhdarin Gr rocks. In the first, the role of marbles and high-alumina rocks is much smaller than in the second, whereas in the Alichur Gr, a significant volume is occupied by quartzites, which are not typical for the Shakhdarin Gr.

Lithology Pattern:
Granitic

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The suite has no stratigraphic relationships with older than Quaternary deposits.

Upper contact

Regional extent

It is developed in the Southwestern Pamir- Rushan, Alichur, and Wakhan ranges. The composition of the Alichur Gr rocks differs from the composition of the Shakhdarin Gr rocks.

Age

In these formations, deposits of the Lower and Upper Proterozoic are conditionally distinguished. It is assumed that the Middle Proterozoic is absent in Tajikistan. Hence it considered Neoproterozoic for schematic stratigraphic representation purpose.
